Urban League of Greater Kansas City is a historic civil rights and community development organization dedicated to enabling African Americans and other underserved urban residents to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights. Founded in 1919 and based on The Paseo in Kansas City's historic 18th and Vine Jazz District, the affiliate delivers impactful community services spanning career placement, housing counseling, youth education, and public policy reform across the bi-state metropolitan area.

The organization's Career Marketplace connects adult jobseekers with family-sustaining employment through individualized career coaching, resume preparation, and direct placement partnerships with major regional corporations. Alongside workforce readiness, the affiliate operates HUD-approved housing counseling services, providing first-time homebuyer education, credit repair counseling, and foreclosure prevention assistance to build and preserve generational minority wealth.

Youth development is anchored by the Difference Makers educational program, which provides academic tutoring, college preparation, STEM enrichment, and mentorship for urban students. In addition, the Urban League publishes the biennial State of Black Kansas City report, providing rigorous data analysis and policy recommendations to address systemic disparities in education, economic development, healthcare, and criminal justice.
