Hudson Pride Center
Jersey City, NJ · Serving Hudson County and Northern New Jersey
Hudson Pride Center stands as the primary community home, dedicated health advocate, and frontline social service hub for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals as well as people living with or affected by HIV throughout Hudson County and Northern New Jersey. Established in 1993 in response to the pressing health crises and severe social isolation affecting the local queer community, the organization has evolved into a comprehensive, full-service community center operating welcoming physical facilities in both Jersey City and Union City to serve hundreds of diverse clients each year across the metropolitan region.
The organization's health department delivers vital prevention, screening, and treatment linkage services designed to eliminate systemic health disparities and improve physical and emotional wellness. Community members have access to free and confidential rapid HIV testing, comprehensive STI screenings, barrier supplies, and personalized navigation for PrEP and PEP preventative medications. Dedicated case managers work closely with individuals living with HIV, providing continuous medical care coordination, health insurance enrollment assistance, nutritional resources, and emergency stabilization support. Licensed mental health clinicians deliver compassionate, culturally competent individual psychotherapy and facilitate structured peer support groups covering stress management, coming out journeys, emotional resilience, relationship health, and trauma recovery in safe, confidential environments.
Empowering younger generations is central to the organization's overarching mission through its signature YouthConnect program. Tailored specifically for LGBTQ+ and questioning youth and young adults ages 13 to 24, YouthConnect offers weekly drop-in spaces, youth leadership development training, inclusive sexual health education, artistic expression workshops, and structured mental wellness activities. Program coordinators provide individualized case management to help young people stay enrolled in school, navigate difficult family dynamics, access emergency shelter, and build positive peer relationships in an affirming community environment where their identities are celebrated and affirmed.
Hudson Pride Center also provides tailored resources for community members who face intersecting layers of marginalization and systemic barriers. The agency's transgender and nonbinary programs offer gender-affirming support, practical assistance with legal name and gender marker changes, peer mentorship, and direct referrals to affirming hormone therapy and surgical healthcare providers. Through Comunidad Latinx, bilingual and bicultural staff provide complete Spanish-language navigation, ensuring immigrant and Spanish-speaking community members can access essential health services, medical care, legal resources, and social connection with dignity and respect.
In addition to direct healthcare and social services, the center plays a major cultural and civic role across the region, organizing civic rallies, educational forums, community health fairs, youth summits, and the annual Jersey City Pride Festival, which unites thousands of residents in celebration and solidarity. Community members can get involved by joining volunteer committees, participating in health education campaigns, helping staff signature community events, or providing tax-deductible financial contributions that sustain lifesaving healthcare and social programs for all.
