Serves Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Davidson County, North CarolinaDisabilityRegistered nonprofit

The Arc of Davidson County provides individualized supports, residential services, and systemic advocacy for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Lexington and surrounding communities. Established in 1962 and accredited by the Council on Quality and Leadership, the chapter is committed to ensuring that individuals of all abilities have the freedom to choose and realize personal goals regarding where and how they live, learn, work, and socialize. The organization partners closely with individuals and families from initial diagnosis through adulthood.

Direct support services form the foundation of the chapter's programmatic impact. Through Community Living Supports, trained staff provide one-on-one assistance to help participants master essential daily living routines, manage personal wellness, and participate actively in community life. The chapter also operates residential supports that deliver individualized habilitation in home settings, alongside scheduled respite care programs that offer temporary relief to primary family caregivers. Resource and referral specialists assist families in navigating public benefit systems, accessing Medicaid waivers, and securing clinical therapies.

Advocacy and community engagement initiatives empower self-advocates and educate the broader public. The chapter provides educational advocacy, supporting parents during individualized education program meetings in local schools to protect student rights. In addition, the organization coordinates inclusive summer day camp programs and social gatherings that provide positive recreational outlets, build friendships, and combat isolation. Community members access assistance by contacting the Lexington office or scheduling an intake meeting.
