The Arc of Haywood County, Inc.
Waynesville, NC · Serving Haywood County
The Arc of Haywood County provides community-based residential care and developmental supports for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Western North Carolina. Established in 1976 by local families determined to keep their children living within their home county, the agency has grown into the leading disability support provider in Waynesville and surrounding Appalachian mountain communities. The organization maintains national accreditation from CARF International for its community housing and supported living services.
The agency maintains four residential locations, including three family-style group homes with around-the-clock staffing and the Woodlawn Group Home, a dedicated Intermediate Care Facility providing comprehensive medical and developmental care. In addition to residential facilities, the organization operates a Community Living Program that coaches adults living independently on meal preparation, budgeting, and public transportation. Its Community Networking initiative pairs participants one-on-one with staff to pursue personal hobbies, volunteer opportunities, and civic engagements throughout the region.
Vocational independence is fostered through the Supported Employment program, where trained job coaches match participants with local employers and provide ongoing workplace guidance. Family caregivers can also access respite services that provide temporary relief while ensuring loved ones remain in a secure setting. Individuals seeking residential or vocational programs can connect with agency administrators through the Welch Street office.
