Colors+ Youth Center

Fairview Park, OH · Serving Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio

Serves LGBTQ+ youth ages 10 to 19, young adults, and their families throughout Greater Cleveland and Northeast OhioLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

Colors+ Youth Center stands as a premier community anchor and mental health haven for LGBTQ+ youth and their families across Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Established in 2018 by licensed clinicians who recognized the profound need for specialized mental health services and welcoming social spaces outside the urban core, the organization established a permanent facility in Fairview Park. Over years of dedicated service, the nonprofit has grown into a comprehensive youth institution that nurtures self-esteem, builds durable peer friendships, and supports families through all stages of adolescent development.

Clinical care at Colors+ is distinguished by an affirmative, trauma-informed approach tailored to the unique developmental experiences of sexual and gender minority youth. The center's staff of licensed professional counselors and social workers deliver individual psychotherapy, family consultations, and specialized group sessions addressing common challenges such as coming out, navigating school environments, coping with anxiety, and healing from minority stress. By creating an environment where young people feel unconditionally understood, clinicians assist youth in discovering inner strengths and developing lifelong coping strategies.

In tandem with clinical services, the facility provides vibrant community spaces that celebrate creative expression and casual connection. During weekly drop-in hours, adolescents ages 10 to 19 gather to play cooperative video games, share meals, work on art projects, and bond with trained adult mentors. The center's expressive arts initiatives incorporate guided music therapy, drumming circles, and creative writing workshops that empower youth to explore their stories and emotions in non-judgmental settings. These relaxed social opportunities directly counter the isolation and bullying that many queer young people experience in conventional settings.

Recognizing how much gender affirmation matters to adolescent wellness, Colors+ operates the Pride Expression affirming clothing closet. This resource provides adolescents with free clothing, outerwear, shoes, and gender-affirming garments in a discreet and supportive environment, allowing young people to align their outward appearance with their authentic identity. Furthermore, the agency recognizes that family acceptance is the strongest protective factor for LGBTQ+ youth, and therefore facilitates monthly caregiver support groups that guide parents and guardians in fostering loving, supportive home environments.

Beyond its facility walls, Colors+ acts as an educational resource for educators, healthcare practitioners, and youth workers throughout Cuyahoga and adjacent counties. Staff members deliver cultural sensitivity workshops to area school districts, civic clubs, and medical clinics to improve systemic support for queer youth. Supported by dedicated volunteers, philanthropic foundations, and enthusiastic community partners, Colors+ Youth Center ensures that every young person in Northeast Ohio grows up with affirming resources, strong family support, and hopeful futures.

Through these collaborative and compassionate community initiatives, Colors+ Youth Center ensures that young people throughout suburban Cleveland and the surrounding counties have access to trusted adult allies, positive creative outlets, and life-changing mental health support when they need it most.
