Serves African American individuals, underserved families, and job seekers across Stark County, OhioBlack communitiesRegistered nonprofit

The Greater Stark County Urban League has championed civil rights, economic self-sufficiency, and family empowerment for African American and underserved residents throughout Canton and Stark County since 1921. Originally founded as the Canton Urban League, the historic non-profit delivers comprehensive wraparound services across five foundational pillars: workforce development, housing stability, healthcare equity, youth education, and social justice.

The agency's workforce initiatives deliver tailored career coaching, job readiness classes, and direct placement support to help community members secure stable employment. To ensure participants can sustain employment, the organization assists in overcoming practical barriers such as reliable transportation, childcare, and technology access. In addition to employment services, the Urban League provides housing counseling, eviction prevention education, and financial literacy workshops that assist families in establishing safe, affordable, and durable living conditions across area neighborhoods.

Health equity and civic advocacy form vital components of the organization's regional mission. Through the Cultural Ally program, the agency works to eliminate mental health disparities by improving culturally competent care access for historically marginalized populations. The organization also coordinates youth leadership mentoring, academic tutoring, and nonpartisan voter education initiatives to strengthen civic engagement, expand leadership capacity, and cultivate generational wealth, dignity, and opportunity across Stark County neighborhoods.
