Serves 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, adults, and families in the Lower Columbia region of Oregon and Southwest WashingtonLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

Lower Columbia Q Center stands as the premier community anchor and support network for Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals throughout the Lower Columbia coastal region, spanning Clatsop County in Oregon and neighboring Pacific County in Washington. Established to create a dedicated, affirming physical home in historic Astoria, the grassroots organization works to ensure that rural and coastal sexual and gender minority residents have access to compassionate care, essential resources, and life-affirming community. The center also promotes health equity by distributing safer sex materials and collaborating with regional health authorities. Guided by values of intersectional equity and mutual care, the center serves as a welcoming gathering space for people of all ages, backgrounds, and gender journeys.

Direct emotional and material support forms the foundation of the center's everyday work. Operating from its drop-in facility on West Bond Street, the agency hosts structured peer support circles tailored for youth, transgender and gender-diverse adults, and community elders. These facilitated gatherings provide safe, confidential spaces to navigate identity exploration, discuss healthcare access, share lived experiences, and build lifelong friendships. By providing structured mentorship and social support, the center empowers participants to develop self-advocacy skills, emotional resilience, and mutual care. The center also hosts creative cultural programs, including intergenerational book clubs, community storytelling circles, art nights, and family storytimes that celebrate diverse families and queer literature.

Material stability and emergency relief represent essential components of the organization's regional mission. The center maintains an on-site, barrier-free gender-affirming clothing closet and personal hygiene pantry, supplying complimentary apparel, toiletries, binders, and wellness items to individuals navigating economic hardship or gender transition. To address critical financial gaps, the agency coordinates emergency financial aid grants and gender-affirming medical stipends that cover prescription co-pays, transportation, and vital document fees. The center also administers the Tessa Scheller Scholarship program, offering financial awards to queer youth and adult learners pursuing postsecondary education or technical training.

Public celebration and community solidarity culminate each summer with Lower Columbia Pride. The multi-day annual celebration brings together hundreds of coastal residents, regional performers, supportive small businesses, and civic leaders for community picnics, educational workshops, live performances, street dances, and family-friendly festivities across Astoria. The center also provides educational outreach, consulting with local employers, healthcare clinics, municipal boards, civic associations, and school districts to build welcoming practices and culturally competent service delivery across the region, ensuring that affirming attitudes take root throughout coastal Oregon.

Through its dedicated drop-in center, comprehensive emergency assistance, and vibrant public gatherings, the Lower Columbia Q Center continues to strengthen rural coastal community life. Supported by individual donors, philanthropic foundation partners, and passionate volunteers, the center remains a welcoming home and unwavering advocate for equality and dignity along the Pacific Northwest coast.
