Coastal Bend Pride Center
Corpus Christi, TX · Serving 12 counties of the Coastal Bend region of Texas
Coastal Bend Pride Center stands as the premier community anchor and only dedicated physical LGBTQIA+ community center across a 12-county region of South Texas. Established in Corpus Christi to address a critical geographic void in specialized resources, the center provides a compassionate and affirming haven for more than 14,000 LGBTQIA+ residents living throughout the Coastal Bend. By combining vital health clinic access with grassroots social advocacy, educational outreach, and peer networking, the organization fosters an inclusive environment where people of all gender identities, backgrounds, and sexual orientations can live authentically, safely, and with dignity.
A central element of the center's holistic model is its integrated health and wellness partnership with the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation. Sharing a collaborative clinical and community campus, the two organizations ensure that clients have direct access to culturally competent primary medical care, gender-affirming clinical services, and specialized HIV and STI prevention and treatment. The center provides individualized case management, assisting clients in overcoming transportation barriers, obtaining insurance coverage, and accessing outpatient substance misuse support. On-site licensed therapists deliver confidential behavioral health counseling, addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, and the unique stresses experienced by sexual and gender minorities in South Texas.
Social connection and peer empowerment form the foundation of the center's daily calendar. The center hosts recurring peer groups for transgender and nonbinary individuals, providing a safe and confidential setting to discuss identity, medical transitions, legal name changes, and family relationships. Youth programs offer affirming social spaces where queer teens and young adults build positive self-esteem and peer friendships outside of school environments. For older adults, parents, and working community members, the center organizes social coffees, creative arts workshops, and professional networking mixers that connect queer professionals with inclusive local employers and business leaders.
The center also invests directly in the future of the local community through educational advancement and civic celebration. Its annual Student Scholarship Program awards academic financial assistance to undergraduate and vocational students who demonstrate leadership and service to the Coastal Bend LGBTQIA+ community. To promote physical wellness and civic visibility, the organization organizes the annual Rainbow Run 5K, bringing together runners, families, and allies along the Corpus Christi waterfront. The center also plays a central role in organizing regional Pride festivities, educational panels, and public advocacy forums that foster cultural understanding and champion municipal nondiscrimination policies across South Texas.
Community members in need of healthcare navigation, counseling, or peer group participation can reach the center by phone, visit the Corpus Christi facility, or connect through its online intake portal. Community members and allies can get involved by volunteering for event committees, serving as peer group facilitators, or making recurring financial contributions through the secure donation portal to sustain vital programs for residents across South Texas.
