The Arc of Denton County
Denton, TX · Serving Denton County and surrounding communities
The Arc of Denton County is an all-volunteer organization that advocates for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families throughout Denton County. Chartered in 1967, the chapter works to ensure that individuals with disabilities can exercise the same rights, opportunities, and responsibilities as all community members. Through educational workshops, peer support groups, and community partnerships, the organization promotes full inclusion across educational, social, and civic life.
Central to its mission are programs led by and designed for individuals with developmental disabilities. The chapter coordinates monthly meetings for the Self-Advocate Leaders of Denton County, hosting a regular book club, educational presentations, and social activities that build confidence and leadership skills. Members also participate in the annual Texas Advocates conference to exchange ideas and develop statewide legislative awareness. Additionally, the chapter collaborates with local school districts, including Denton and Lewisville ISD, as well as area universities to enhance transition planning and community accessibility.
Families and individuals seeking assistance can contact the organization's information and referral helpline or connect via email to receive guidance on local service providers, state benefits, and educational accommodations. Community members can get involved by volunteering as chaperones for social events, assisting with resource fairs, or making tax-deductible financial donations to sustain local programs.
