Housing rights in Florida

What protects you here

Every state

Florida law

Federal fair housing law applies everywhere. In Florida, sexual orientation and gender identity are not covered statewide, though some cities and counties cover them. State law does not name either, and the state commission voted on November 24, 2025 to stop investigating these claims, but Orlando, Tampa, Miami-Dade County, and other local governments cover both.

File with the Florida Commission on Human Relations

Local law in Miami

Florida law does not cover sexual orientation or gender identity, but Miami-Dade County's Human Rights Ordinance covers both, plus source of income. Housing complaints are due within 365 days.
