About Southfield Juneteenth Celebration

The City of Southfield marks Juneteenth with a week of events centered on its municipal campus on Evergreen Road. The week opens with a flag raising at City Hall and a walk led by the mayor, and includes concerts, a family history forum and an evening of music and art by Black artists.

What to expect

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when news of the end of slavery reached Galveston, Texas. It became a federal holiday in 2021. Celebrations often include parades, music, food, history programs and family activities.
