Atlanta's LGBTQ-owned listings run past nightlife and food into the services people actually need a trusted provider for, which is the whole reason someone searches for an LGBTQ-owned business in the first place.

Fourteen listings, and the spread is unusual: three bars, five restaurants and cafes, two shops, and four practices you would hire rather than visit.

The Gage Law Firm, LLC is a gay-owned Atlanta criminal defense practice that specializes in cases involving mental illness and involuntary commitment. That is a narrow and genuinely difficult specialty, and it carries a paid tier, meaning the firm built out its own page.

3d Psychotherapy, LLC is an LGBTQ-owned psychotherapy practice. Shannon Williams + Elements Atlanta is a lesbian realtor and associate broker leading a team at Keller Williams Intown; the listing describes her as an Atlanta Top Producer nine years running.

5 Star Office Furniture is the outlier and the one nobody expects: an LGBTQ-owned office furniture and business-to-business supplier. If your company has a supplier-diversity target and keeps failing to find anyone to buy from, start here.

Where should I shop?

Two listings, and both are institutions rather than shops.

Charis Books & More is the South's oldest independent feminist bookstore. It opened in 1974 in Little Five Points, moved to Decatur in 2019, and now operates as the bookstore of Agnes Scott College alongside its nonprofit arm. It carries feminist, LGBTQ, and diverse children's books, and it functions as a community hub as much as a retailer. It is the only Featured listing in this category.

Lost n' Found Thrift Store is a thrift store whose purpose is funding support for LGBTQ youth. Shopping there and donating to it are the same act, which makes it the easiest entry on this page to build into an ordinary week.

Where should I go out?

Atlanta's LGBTQ nightlife is well documented elsewhere; these are the ones in our directory with an ownership tag and a source behind it.

My Sister's Room is a lesbian bar and is women-owned as well. Lesbian bars have closed across the country at a rate that makes every remaining one worth naming, and this is Atlanta's in our records.

Bulldogs is a gay nightclub with a long history in the city. Georgia Beer Garden is the more relaxed option. Lore is listed as a queer bar and community space, which is a different proposition again: somewhere to meet people rather than somewhere to drink.

Where should I eat?

Baker Dude Bakery Cafe in Grant Park is the one with a paid tier, known for moist, not-too-sweet cupcakes alongside sandwiches, salads, and gluten free, vegan, and paleo options. It is Black-owned as well, one of two listings here carrying two tags.

El Viñedo Local does South American food and wine. Guac y Margys is tacos and margaritas. FiNCA TO FiLTER is a coffee pop-up and cafe that is women-owned as well.

What is not on this list?

The trades and most of healthcare. There is no LGBTQ-owned contractor, electrician, plumber, dentist, physician, accountant, or veterinarian listed in Atlanta in our directory, and 3d Psychotherapy is the only health practice of any kind.

Atlanta has one of the largest LGBTQ populations in the South, so the absence is clearly in our records rather than in the city. It is also the most useful gap on this page: someone looking for an LGBTQ-owned dentist or contractor is usually looking because a previous experience went badly, and there is currently nothing here to send them to. If you run an LGBTQ-owned business in metro Atlanta in any of those categories, you would be the first listed in it. Listings are free to add.

How is ownership determined?

Each listing shows a verification status. Publicly listed means ownership was recorded from a public source such as a chamber directory or the business's own description. Self identified means the owner told us directly. Certified means a third party verified it.

We never infer ownership from a name, a neighborhood, a rainbow flag in a window, or a business's clientele. A bar with a queer crowd is not evidence of a queer owner, and a business displaying a pride flag has made a statement about welcome, not about ownership. Those are different claims and we keep them separate: welcome is a posture tag, ownership is a sourced claim with a status attached.

Common mistakes

Assuming this is a nightlife list. Four of the fourteen are professional practices, and the single most established listing is a fifty-year-old bookstore.

Confusing a welcoming business with an LGBTQ-owned one. Both matter. They are not the same thing, and this directory tags them separately.

Expecting everything inside the city. Charis Books is in Decatur, which is where it moved in 2019.

Treating a tag as a certification. Ownership tags are sourced claims with a status attached. Formal LGBTBE certification through the NGLCC is separate and shown separately.
