Intransitive

Intransitive works for trans liberation in Arkansas through mutual aid, organizing, education, art and culture. It formed in March 2017 to fill the gap in intersectional trans spaces in the state, held the first trans march in Arkansas that same month in downtown Springdale, and on December 17, 2021 opened the state's first transgender community center in a building it renovated alongside volunteers over five months.

The center is run by trans people, for trans people. Its anti-violence work supports survivors of domestic and sexual violence and helps people secure emergency housing, groceries, and HIV and harm reduction services. Emergency financial support funds most often cover housing, groceries and trans-related care. A Free Store offers groceries, hygiene supplies, clothes, home goods and a hot meal, while monthly skill-sharing workshops, art nights and English classes fill the calendar. Trans immigrants find legal advocacy, interpretation and translation, and the Migra Watch Deportation Defense Line answers around the clock in Spanish and English. As the Arkansas contact for GSA Network, Intransitive also helps trans and LGB+ youth start GSAs at their schools, colleges and universities.

Statewide, Intransitive organizes against legislation targeting trans Arkansans, convenes the Queertonomy Coalition around bodily autonomy, publishes Voting While Trans and protest-rights guides, and offers trans competency trainings for organizations and businesses.
