New Horizons - The Arc of Southeast Indiana
Batesville, IN · Serving Southeastern Indiana (Ripley, Franklin, Dearborn, Decatur, Ohio, and Switzerland counties)
New Horizons – The Arc of Southeast Indiana provides comprehensive habilitation, vocational, and residential services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across six counties. Founded in 1971, the Batesville-based organization is dedicated to creating opportunities that foster personal dignity, independence, and full community membership for people of all abilities throughout Southeastern Indiana.
The organization operates adult day services that combine campus activities with frequent community volunteer projects, recreation, and life skill instruction. Through its community employment department, vocational specialists provide work readiness instruction, job development, and on-site coaching, partnering with regional businesses to secure competitive employment. New Horizons also operates social enterprises, including The Friendly Bean Cafe and gift marketplace, where participants gain hands-on customer service and retail work experience in a supportive public setting. These enterprises give participants real-world experience interacting with customers, managing inventory, and practicing teamwork in an encouraging, community-centered environment. Residential programs provide supported living, group home arrangements, and respite care that enable individuals to live safely and independently in the community.
Individuals and families seeking services can contact the Batesville campus to discuss eligibility, tour facilities, and explore Medicaid waiver options. Community supporters can get involved by patronizing the agency's social enterprises, volunteering for special events, hiring qualified participants, or making tax-deductible contributions to expand programming.
