Serves Rural LGBTQ+ individuals, youth, and families across Owen County and South-Central IndianaLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

Spencer Pride improves the quality of life for rural LGBTQ+ individuals and their families throughout Owen County and South-Central Indiana. Established in 2007 by grassroots community organizers, the all-volunteer organization made national history in 2016 by opening the Spencer Pride commUnity center in downtown Spencer, creating what was recognized as the smallest municipality in the United States with an operating LGBTQ+ community center. Located on East Franklin Street within the courthouse historic district, the facility serves as a vibrant, welcoming anchor for rural community connection.

The commUnity center features a gathering space for community meetings, public computer stations, gender-neutral restrooms, and Unity, a dedicated retail shop that showcases local artisans, LGBTQ+ merchandise, and vintage resale goods. Educational and youth programs are highlighted by the Iris Youth Group, which offers regular peer support, socialization, and leadership activities for youth ages 10 to 19. The center also delivers free health and wellness services, including routine wellness clinics, HIV screenings, and health education in partnership with regional public health providers.

The organization's signature event is the annual Spencer Pride Festival, held on the courthouse square in downtown Spencer. Recognized as the largest annual civic gathering in the county, the festival features more than 150 vendor booths, live performances, family entertainment, and educational exhibits that celebrate rural diversity and equality. Residents seeking meeting schedules, youth group information, or community resources can visit the Franklin Street center or contact organizers online.
