Serves Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Owen, Monroe, and Putnam countiesDisabilityRegistered nonprofit

Sweet Owen Industries Arc supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling, self-determined lives integrated into their local communities. Founded in 1974 by local parents who purchased a van to transport their children to specialized education in an adjacent county, the group quickly chartered as a local Arc chapter to establish community-based services within Owen County. Operating from its campus on Concord Road in Spencer, the organization delivers person-centered day programming, community living assistance, and family support across Owen, Monroe, and Putnam counties.

Adult day services provide participants with structured daily routines, social interaction, communication skill development, and creative recreational activities designed to foster personal autonomy. Staff assist participants in setting and achieving individual life goals, fostering community engagement through frequent volunteer projects and local recreational outings. Through residential living supports, direct care staff assist individuals living in their own homes or family settings with meal planning, budgeting, medication administration, and household management.

The organization partners closely with state disability programs and local school districts to assist adolescents transitioning into adult services. Direct support professionals emphasize choice, inclusion, and dignity in every aspect of care, helping participants build enduring relationships with neighbors and civic organizations. Families, caregivers, and individuals seeking day programming or residential support can contact the administrative office on Concord Road or visit the organization's website to begin the intake process.
