The Frederick Center
Frederick, MD · Serving Frederick County and Western Maryland
The Frederick Center exists to foster an equitable, inclusive, and affirming community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals and their families in Frederick County and surrounding Western Maryland. Founded in 2012, the center provides vital support groups, youth programs, professional training, and cultural events in an area where dedicated LGBTQ+ resources were historically limited.
The center hosts weekly and monthly peer-led support groups tailored to diverse community demographics, including transgender and nonbinary adults, LGBTQ+ youth, and parents of queer children. Youth programs provide safe, welcoming spaces for middle and high school students to socialize, participate in artistic activities, and build self-advocacy skills under the guidance of trained adult mentors.
In addition to direct community support, The Frederick Center coordinates Frederick Pride, bringing thousands of community members together each year to celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and community partnerships. The organization also delivers educational workshops and cultural competency trainings to local school districts, healthcare providers, and regional businesses, promoting widespread inclusion and safety.
Individuals and families seeking peer support, resources, or youth programming can connect with center staff through the website or drop in during scheduled gatherings. Community members can get involved by volunteering as youth group facilitators, assisting with Pride festivities, or making financial donations to expand rural and suburban LGBTQ+ support services.
