New Hampshire Outright
Portsmouth, NH · Serving New Hampshire
New Hampshire Outright, originally established in 1993 as Seacoast Outright, supports, protects, and advocates for LGBTQ+ young people and their families. Founded by a grassroots coalition of parents and community advocates, the organization has expanded from its coastal roots into a comprehensive statewide movement. The group provides peer support spaces, educational programming, and leadership opportunities designed to help queer youth thrive in affirming school, family, and social environments.
Direct support services center on weekly peer discussion groups for youth and young adults ages 11 to 21, creating safe spaces to discuss identity, mental wellness, relationships, and school experiences. In addition, monthly caregiver support groups offer parents and guardians a structured forum to ask questions, share resources, and learn effective ways to support their LGBTQ+ children. Through the statewide Gender and Sexuality Alliance network, the organization provides curriculum guides, leadership training, and technical assistance to student clubs across New Hampshire middle and high schools.
The organization also produces Portsmouth Pride, an annual community celebration that brings thousands of residents, families, and community partners together for a vibrant parade, live entertainment, and artisan marketplace. Professional development workshops train educators, social service providers, and healthcare professionals in LGBTQ+ cultural competency and affirming youth practices throughout the state.
