Fargo, ND · Serving State of North Dakota

Serves Marginalized communities, LGBTQ+ residents, refugees, and civil rights advocates across North DakotaLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

North Dakota Human Rights Coalition is a statewide membership organization dedicated to protecting civil liberties and promoting systemic justice across North Dakota. Based in Fargo with a statewide scope, the coalition brings together community advocates, allied organizations, and residents to eliminate discrimination in housing, employment, healthcare, and education.

A central focus of the coalition is public policy advocacy during state legislative sessions. Staff and member advocates monitor proposed bills, submit expert testimony, and educate the public on legislative proposals that affect marginalized populations, particularly LGBTQ+ people, Indigenous communities, racial minorities, and new Americans. The coalition actively collaborates with regional partners to defend human rights protections against regressive measures and build broad coalitions for civic equity.

Beyond legislative advocacy, the organization coordinates statewide educational summits and community awareness initiatives. It serves as a lead partner and fiscal sponsor for the annual North Dakota LGBTQ+ Summit, which gathers grassroots organizers, students, and allies from across the state for leadership workshops, legal training, and intersectional movement building.

The coalition also documents human rights concerns across the state, facilitates civic engagement training, and honors exceptional grassroots leadership through the Arc of Justice Awards. Through coalition building and public forums, the organization empowers North Dakotans to participate effectively in democratic processes.
