Oklahoma Equality Law Center
Tulsa, OK · Serving Oklahoma
Oklahoma Equality Law Center provides dedicated direct civil legal services and representation to Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals throughout the state of Oklahoma. Headquartered on South Boston Avenue in downtown Tulsa, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit operates as the sole legal organization in Oklahoma exclusively focused on resolving legal issues impacting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The organization assists clients navigating a broad array of civil legal matters that uniquely affect sexual and gender minorities. Attorneys provide guidance and courtroom representation for legal name and gender marker corrections, ensuring individuals possess state and federal identification reflecting their authentic identities. The center also handles complex family law issues, including second-parent adoptions, parental rights documentation, and domestic agreements that protect diverse family structures under evolving state statutes.
In addition to family law, Oklahoma Equality Law Center defends individuals against unlawful discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations. Legal staff assist clients encountering healthcare denials or school-based civil rights violations, providing know-your-rights education and administrative advocacy. Through community workshops, the center educates residents on protective legal planning, including advance medical directives, powers of attorney, and wills.
Individuals in need of legal consultation can submit an intake request through the center's confidential website form or email the legal team directly. Attorneys and legal professionals can get involved by volunteering pro bono services, while community members can support legal defense work through online financial contributions.
