The Arc of Tillamook County
Tillamook, OR · Serving Tillamook County
The Arc of Tillamook County works to enhance the dignity, self-determination, and quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Oregon's northern coastal communities. Formed in 1969 by local parents organizing as the Tillamook Association for Retarded Citizens, the grassroots nonprofit has dedicated more than five decades to expanding community acceptance and filling critical resource gaps for rural coastal residents.
Direct aid programs provide financial relief to local individuals and families when essential support needs cannot be met through traditional public assistance systems. The organization awards individual assistance grants that fund emergency shelter, vital medical and dental treatments, adaptive clothing, specialized assistive equipment, and educational or vocational training courses. By collaborating closely with regional disability service providers, the chapter ensures that emergency hardships do not compromise individual safety or community living.
Program funding is sustained through the operation of the Kit and Caboodle Thrift Store, located on First Street in downtown Tillamook. Completely staffed and managed by dedicated community volunteers known locally as the Ladies of the Kit, the thrift shop accepts community donations and sells gently used clothing, furniture, and household goods. All proceeds generated by store sales directly underwrite the chapter's emergency grants and disability support initiatives.
