Bham Black Pride

Bham Black Pride works to mobilize, organize, empower and educate LGBTQ communities of color in Birmingham. Its annual celebration has included a vendor expo, a drag show, a day party and Pride in the Park. It is connected with AIDS Alabama.

Birmingham Black Pride grew out of the ideas and frustrations of communities of color in Birmingham who wanted a larger role in the issues affecting their lives. In the fall of 2017, a group of concerned community members met and decided it was time to take charge of their own stories. They also hoped their example would encourage others in the community who felt unheard to speak up and get involved.

The organization's mission is to bring LGBTQ communities of color together to share, celebrate and recognize their combined heritage, history and culture. Its work reaches beyond the city to Alabama as a whole, with a focus on improving health, wellness and social justice for LGBTQ people of color through organizing, education and community events.

Black Pride events center Black LGBTQ+ people. Many run over a long weekend, with parties, panels, health and wellness programs and community gatherings.

Bham Black Pride has included vendor expo, drag show, pride in the park and day party.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. It usually falls fall.
