Transforming Families Minnesota

Saint Paul, MN · Serving Minnesota statewide

Serves Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse youth, their parents, caregivers, and siblings across MinnesotaLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

Transforming Families Minnesota is a community organization dedicated to supporting transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse youth and their families through peer connection, educational resources, and advocacy. Founded in 2017, the organization provides a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where parents, caregivers, youth, and siblings can share lived experiences, navigate social and medical transitions, and access compassionate community support across Minnesota.

The organization coordinates regularly scheduled peer support meetings tailored for distinct age and family groups, including elementary youth, middle and high school teens, young adults, parents, and extended family members. These meetings offer a safe space to discuss school accommodations, healthcare navigation, family relationships, and personal growth, facilitated by experienced peer leaders and parents who understand the journey.

Through its Family Mentorship Project, Transforming Families Minnesota pairs newly navigating families with seasoned parent mentors who provide one-on-one guidance, reassurance, and practical resources during critical transition periods. The organization also partners with the Pride Cultural Arts Center and regional LGBTQ+ advocacy groups to deliver social outings, family camp weekends, and community education workshops that build intergenerational resilience and family acceptance.

By empowering families with knowledge, peer connection, and community advocacy, Transforming Families Minnesota ensures that gender-diverse young people grow up affirmed, valued, and loved in their homes, schools, and communities.
