Twin Cities Pride

Community Spotlight

Minneapolis, MN · Serving Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro and the Upper Midwest

Serves LGBTQ+ individuals, families, artists, and allies across the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area and the Upper MidwestLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

Twin Cities Pride is a cornerstone cultural institution and the producer of one of the largest free Pride celebrations in the United States, championing equality, inclusion, and cultural expression for LGBTQ+ people across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. Founded in 1972 with a modest commemorative gathering marking the Stonewall uprising, the organization has grown over more than five decades into a major community anchor that welcomes hundreds of thousands of participants each summer to downtown Minneapolis and Loring Park.

The annual Twin Cities Pride Festival and March serve as the organization's marquee events, transforming public parks into vibrant hubs of celebration, advocacy, and connection. The multiday festival features multiple entertainment stages highlighting local and national musicians, drag performers, dancers, and spoken word poets. Hundreds of community organizations, healthcare clinics, civic groups, and small businesses host interactive booths, connecting attendees with affirming services, educational resources, and mutual aid networks in an accessible, family-inclusive environment that welcomes all generations and backgrounds.

In recent years, Twin Cities Pride expanded its mission beyond the summer festival by establishing the Pride Cultural Arts Center. This permanent community and exhibition space provides a year-round home for LGBTQ+ visual artists, performers, and writers. Through its Artist in Residence and Junior Artist in Residence programs, the center awards grants, studio access, and exhibition opportunities to emerging creators, ensuring that diverse queer and trans voices are preserved, celebrated, and elevated throughout the region.

The organization also curates an extensive calendar of year-round public programming designed to support community wellness, economic opportunity, and intergenerational connection. Signature initiatives include the annual Rainbow Run 5K, the Queer Career Fair connecting jobseekers with affirming regional employers, the Queer Writes Book Fair highlighting LGBTQ+ authors, and specialized youth events like Pride Youth Night, family fun days, and community holiday festivals. Additional community care efforts, such as the Rainbow Wardrobe, provide free gender-affirming clothing, professional attire, and accessories to individuals in transition.

Through its ongoing educational campaigns, community outreach initiatives, and strategic partnerships, Twin Cities Pride actively combats prejudice, promotes health equity, and uplifts underrepresented queer and trans communities across the Upper Midwest. The organization collaborates closely with local civic institutions, arts organizations, and community centers to sponsor cultural programming, panel discussions, and youth mentorship projects that extend far beyond Pride month. These collaborative efforts foster civic dialogue, empower emerging community organizers, and build lasting bridges across diverse neighborhoods throughout Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and surrounding regional communities.

Through enduring partnerships with local cultural organizations, nonprofit agencies, neighborhood groups, and grassroots organizers, Twin Cities Pride fosters deep public understanding, defends statewide civil liberties, supports grassroots organizers, and creates celebratory spaces that honor the rich history, resilience, and diverse future of Minnesota's queer community for generations to come.
