Juneau Pride

Juneau Pride is organized by SEAGLA, a nonprofit formed in 1986 to support LGBTQ+ people in Southeast Alaska. Pride Month in Juneau typically includes a picnic, a Pride prom, a march, hikes, and a drag showcase.

The roots of SEAGLA go back to the early 1980s, when a group of friends in Juneau saw that gay, lesbian and bisexual residents had few places to socialize. They took turns hosting house parties and monthly potlucks, and some dances were held in a host's garage, with word spreading mostly person to person. In May 1986 the group held meetings, elected officers, adopted bylaws and formally incorporated as the Southeast Alaska Gay and Lesbian Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Today SEAGLA works to provide a supportive social network for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, Two-Spirit and queer people across Southeast Alaska and to promote public acceptance of their full economic, social, legal and political rights. It is entirely community funded. Pride, Pride Prom and programs like Queer Crafts are paid for completely by donations, and every dollar raised goes into events, community support and resources for LGBTQ+ people in the region.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

Juneau Pride has included picnic, pride prom, drag show and march.

Juneau Pride was first held in 1986.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. It usually falls june, with a Pride week of events.
