About Spartanburg Pride
Spartanburg Pride is a new march and festival organized by the Spartanburg Pride Coalition, a union of Upstate groups supporting LGBTQIA+ people in Spartanburg. It follows the end of Upstate Pride SC's long-running fall festival in Spartanburg, which the older group discontinued to focus on Greenville.
The Spartanburg Pride Coalition is a union of Upstate groups supporting LGBTQIA+ people, families and allies in Spartanburg, Anderson and Cherokee counties, with the goal of seeing Pride celebrated in the city of Spartanburg every year. The fall festival was planned in response to community demand for a local celebration that builds connection, highlights resources and gives everyone a place to feel seen and supported.
Starting funds from the Upstate SC LGBT+ Chamber made up most of the budget for the coalition's first Pride, and additional donations go toward growing the annual march and festival. The coalition's website features historical photos from the collections of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries.
