Housing rights in Texas

What protects you here

Every state

Texas law

Federal fair housing law applies everywhere. In Texas, sexual orientation and gender identity are not covered statewide, though some cities and counties cover them. Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, Plano, and a few other cities cover both, but Houston does not after voters repealed its 2014 ordinance in 2015.

File with the Texas Workforce Commission, Civil Rights Division

Local law in Houston

Neither Texas law nor the City of Houston protects sexual orientation or gender identity in housing. Houston voters repealed the city's equal rights ordinance in 2015.
