Capital Pride

Capital Pride is the main LGBTQ+ Pride celebration in Washington, DC, produced by the Capital Pride Alliance. The 2026 celebration ran June 12 to 21, with the parade on Saturday, June 20 through Shaw, Logan Circle and Downtown and a free festival and concert on Pennsylvania Avenue NW on Sunday, June 21. The festival features hundreds of exhibitors, food and beverage areas and multiple stages of performances.

Capital Pride Alliance is a Washington, DC nonprofit that works year-round, not only in June. Its programs include education, fundraising, outreach and advocacy, and it supports the work of community organizations and local businesses across the National Capital Region. The alliance hosted WorldPride DC in 2025.

Beyond the parade and festival, the alliance runs the Pride365 shop and PRIDE365 Radio, a live radio station produced by and for the LGBTQ+ community. Its recent messaging has been built around three ideas, existence, resistance and audacity, stressing that LGBTQ+ people have always been part of American history and calling for visibility in the face of efforts to limit their rights.

The organization's about page includes a land acknowledgment naming the Anacostan, Piscataway and Pamunkey peoples, on whose ancestral lands the city sits, and a timeline of LGBTQ+ history in DC that begins with the police actions and federal employee purges of the 1940s and 1950s. Registration for the following year's parade and festival opened in the summer after the 2026 celebration.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

Capital Pride has included parade, festival, concert, block party, family festival and parties.

Capital Pride was first held in 1975. Organizers reported about 250,000 at the street festival people in 2012.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 12-21, 2026. It usually falls mid-June; usually the second weekend of June, moved to June 20-21 in 2026.
