About NWA Pride
NWA Pride is Arkansas's largest LGBTQ+ Pride celebration, produced by Northwest Arkansas Equality in downtown Fayetteville. The weekend opens with a Trans March and rally, followed by a Saturday festival with a family zone, the Rainbow Row Market and the NWA Pride Parade on Dickson Street. Ticketed events include the Glitterville party and the Hi Tea pool party on Mount Sequoyah.
The first NWA Pride Parade went down Dickson Street in 2004, but local Pride history goes back further, at least to the 1975 Miss Gay Fayetteville Arkansas America pageant at George's Majestic Lounge. Ken Boyle, Joney Harper and Norman Hadley founded NWA Pride, Inc. in 2007 to run an annual parade and rally, while the NWA Center for Equality coordinated a full month of Pride programming from 2007 to 2014, including a Pride picnic, a pub crawl, bingo and pageants.
In 2015 the two groups merged to form Northwest Arkansas Equality, Inc., and Susan Hartman was hired as its first paid staff member. The organization now serves thousands of people a year through programs, events, advocacy and support services. Officials estimated that more than 40,000 people attended Pride weekend in 2025.
Each year NWA Equality names parade grand marshals and Trans March captains. In 2026 the grand marshal honor went to the seven founding board members of the organization, two of them posthumously, and the Trans March captains were All Bikes Welcome, a cycling group recognized for standing behind trans and nonbinary people during a dispute over a community mural. Organizers encourage riding Ozark Regional Transit or Razorback Transit, and two downtown hotels serve as official Pride hotels.
