Pride in Irvine

Pride in Irvine is a community celebration hosted by the City of Irvine at the Civic Center Piazza.

Pride in Irvine is hosted by the City of Irvine to mark both Harvey Milk Day and June Pride Month, and 2026 was its fifth year. The early evening gathering at the Civic Center Piazza, at 1 Civic Center Plaza, centers on raising the Progress Flag in front of City Hall. Guests can meet local organizations, learn about community resources, and enjoy light refreshments and activities.

Harvey Milk Day, observed each May 22, honors Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, who served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and was a leading advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights until he was assassinated in 1978. California officially recognized the day in 2009.

The Progress Flag flies at City Hall from May 22 through June 30 as a symbol of the diversity of LGBTQIA+ communities. Its display period includes two anniversaries: the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision of June 26, 2015, which recognized same-sex marriage as a constitutional right, and the start of the Stonewall uprising on June 28, 1969.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held May 22, 2026. It usually falls late May, around Harvey Milk Day.
