Alameda Pride in the Park

Alameda Pride in the Park is a free, all-ages, family-friendly Pride festival in Alameda, followed by an evening block party on Alameda Avenue with a DJ. Alameda Pride also runs a teen center and a monthly social group.

Alameda Pride is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to create a safe, inclusive and equitable environment for LGBTQ+ people in Alameda and their allies through outreach, education, funding and advocacy. Its founder, Jeramie, moved to Alameda with his husband Andrew in 2014 after marrying in the Midwest, and was surprised to find the city had no Pride of its own. He started Alameda Pride to fill that gap, with the goal of giving LGBTQ+ Alamedans and their supporters a place to meet neighbors and keep working toward equality.

Pride in the Park takes place at Chochenyo Park from noon to 6 p.m., and the block party on Alameda Avenue runs from 6 to 9 p.m. The organization recruits volunteers for shifts on the day and opens vendor applications ahead of the festival. Its sponsors range from neighborhood businesses and the Kiwanis Club of Alameda to EBMUD and San Francisco Bay Ferry.

Outside of Pride, the Queer Teen Alameda Center (QTAC) meets every Friday during the school year from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building on Central Avenue and hosts teen-only events. Out on the Island (OOTI), a social meetup, gathers on the first Friday of each month. The volunteer board includes longtime residents, city and nonprofit professionals, and the director of the Pacific Pinball Museum.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
