Atlanta Pride

Atlanta Pride is an annual two-day festival in Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta, followed by a Sunday parade along Peachtree Street that ends at the park. The weekend includes community marches such as a Trans March, a Bi/Pan March and a Dyke March, plus stages and a marketplace. The organizing committee describes itself as Georgia's oldest nonprofit serving the LGBTQ+ community.

Atlanta Pride traces its work back to 1971 and has staged the festival for more than five decades. It is held in October to line up with National Coming Out Day on October 11, and the organizers describe it as the largest free Pride event in the country, drawing more than 350,000 visitors a year along with the biggest parade in the city.

The organization calls itself grassroots and relies on more than 400 volunteers to put on the festival. Its work extends well past the October weekend: it runs educational, social and cultural programs throughout the year, offers resources on gender and sexuality across the Southeast, and supports local LGBTQ+ causes through partnerships and grantmaking. Supporters can join its 70 Club membership program.

Atlanta Pride says its mission is to amplify diverse voices and build connections among LGBTQ+ people in the region. It names four core values: diversity across intersecting identities, honoring the history of the activists who came before, welcoming and accessible spaces, and openness and accountability in how it operates.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
