Baltimore BLAQ Pride

Baltimore BLAQ Pride is a celebration of Black LGBTQ+ identity hosted by BLAQ Equity Baltimore and listed in the Center for Black Equity's network of Black Prides. The 2026 edition runs October 9 to 12, with the BLAQ Pride ICON Awards on October 9 and a Miss, Mr. and Mx. pageant.

BLAQ Pride grew out of a 2002 decision by four Baltimore community leaders, Carlton Smith, Kevin Clemons, Dana Owens and Leroy Burgess, to create a space of their own after their mostly Black group was told it was too loud at the local Pride parade. They founded Baltimore Black Gay Pride, which organized an October celebration for many years and joined the International Federation of Black Prides.

The group later became the Center for Black Equity-Baltimore, an affiliate of the national Center for Black Equity. In 2016 it took the name BLAQ Equity Baltimore and resumed operating as an independent nonprofit, and it marked 20 years in 2022. It now builds year-round programming around Black LGBTQIA+ culture, leadership and wellness in the city.

Pride has grown into a month of October events. The 2026 theme, WONDALAND: The Power of the BLAQ Imagination, follows the 2025 theme HOMECOMING: The Future is Family. The calendar includes an opening happy hour and mixer, the Sankofa Exchange Conference with days on economics and technology, health and wellness, arts and culture, and community power, plus a hike, a movie night, speed dating and socials hosted by partner groups. The ICON Awards are named for cofounder Carlton R. Smith, and the Lord Baltimore Hotel offers a discounted room rate during the month.

Black Pride events center Black LGBTQ+ people. Many run over a long weekend, with parties, panels, health and wellness programs and community gatherings.

Baltimore BLAQ Pride has included pageant, icon awards, parties and community events.

The next edition is October 9-12, 2026. It usually falls columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day weekend in October.
