Belmont Pride Parade

The Belmont Pride Parade is an annual town Pride march hosted by the Belmont LGBTQ+ Alliance, a group that is part of Belmont Against Racism. The alliance also runs the Belmont Welcomes campaign and community events through the year.

The Belmont LGBTQ+ Alliance began in 2001 as the Gay Straight Alliance Committee, a subcommittee of Belmont Against Racism formed out of concern for the safety and well-being of gay and lesbian students in the town schools. One of its founders started the group after her son came out at Belmont High. The committee took its current name in 2017 and now works on issues facing all LGBTQ+ people in Belmont.

The alliance says its mission is to promote awareness, inclusion and equity and a community free of harassment for people of every sexual orientation and gender identity, through education, social action, advocacy and support. Its members were active in the push for marriage equality in Massachusetts, and Belmont became the first town to march as a town in the Boston Pride March about two decades ago.

Along with the parade, the alliance keeps a community calendar of events and has held gatherings for the Transgender Day of Visibility. It works with individuals, community groups, businesses and local officials across Belmont and welcomes conversations with residents of all backgrounds.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held May 31, 2026. It usually falls late May or early June.
