Columbia Heights Pride

Columbia Heights Pride is an annual community festival organized by HeightsNEXT and held at Kordiak Park. The family-friendly event includes musical performances, storytellers, vendor booths, a pet parade, activities and food trucks.

HeightsNEXT is a volunteer organization that sponsors events and projects in Columbia Heights, with a mission of building a resilient and sustainable community. Its programming aims to strengthen ties among neighbors, businesses, civic groups and the city's many cultures, and it states that it welcomes people of every background while staying out of politics and endorsements.

The organization holds one annual meeting each January, where the president reviews the past year, members sign up or renew, and volunteers choose which events they want to help run that year. A board meets quarterly, and each event team, including the Pride committee, sets its own meeting schedule. HeightsNEXT often works with city staff, businesses, churches, schools, food shelves and other volunteer groups.

The festival draws both neighbors and visitors from across the Twin Cities metro, and its organizers describe the goal as respect for all cultures, genders, skin colors, sexual orientations, ages, body types and abilities. Official Columbia Heights PRIDE merchandise is offered at the event in exchange for a donation, with the money going straight back into the annual celebration. Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
