Sussex County Pride

Sussex County Pride holds an annual Pride event each June in Newton along with social gatherings and community programs through the year. 2026 was the ninth annual celebration.

Sussex County Pride describes itself as the first LGBTQ+ advocacy group in Sussex County. It began in 2017 as an event run by a women's advocacy organization, and when that organization dissolved in 2019, Sussex County Pride became independent and carried on the tradition. The group sees action at the local level as key to empowering members of the community.

Its work falls into three areas. Pride covers the annual June events and year-round social and community programming. Advocacy includes charitable initiatives, community fundraisers and partnerships with local organizations. Action means engaging in dialogue about LGBTQ+ issues through community discussions, local media and public policy, and pressing for proclamations, visibility and supportive legislation.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The next edition is June 12, 2027. It usually falls second Saturday in June.
