Indigenous Pride LA

Indigenous Pride LA is an annual gathering for Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and Indigenous LGBTQ+ communities. The 2026 gathering is at the South Lawn of Exposition Park.

Indigenous Pride LA began in December 2017 with a conversation between two work colleagues, Gabby Leon (Yaqui) and Terri Jay (Navajo and Zuni), about how rarely Two-Spirit identities were seen or celebrated. Terri brought friends and colleagues from the Native American community into the discussion, and over a series of meetings the group decided to broaden its focus beyond Native North and South America. Members recognized that Indigenous peoples around the world share histories of colonization and missionization, including the loss and marginalization of third, fourth, fifth and sacred genders.

The result was a Pride event meant to honor all Indigenous peoples, especially those who are Two-Spirit or who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual or intersex. The organization describes itself as the only Pride group and event in Los Angeles devoted to Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer and Indigenous LGBTQPAI+ culture and heritage, created because many Pride events offer few resources or little room for those identities.

The group is made up of community activists, educators, artists and members of Indigenous communities, and its mission is to build intertribal solidarity through education, celebration and cultural revitalization on Tongva lands. The fall intertribal festival returned in 2026 with the theme The Radiance of Our Steps: Pride Blooms Where We Dance. The organization accepts sponsors and vendor applications and is recruiting volunteers to support its long-term work.

Two-Spirit gatherings honor Indigenous LGBTQ+ people and their traditions, often as a powwow with dancing, drumming and ceremony.

Indigenous Pride LA has included gathering and powwow-style celebration.

The next edition is October 11, 2026. It usually falls october, around Indigenous Peoples Day.
