LA Black Pride, known as At the Beach, began in 1988 when a group of friends invited Black gay men to a Fourth of July weekend gathering on the beach during the HIV/AIDS crisis. Today it is a festival weekend centered on a daylong beach party at Will Rogers State Beach, run by Pride and Promote.
