Wine Country Pride Street Fair (Pride on Third)

Wine Country Pride holds a Pride street fair along Third Street in McMinnville. Activities run along the street through the day and include drag storytime and bingo, a pet parade, a kids corner, and a resource fair.

Wine Country Pride was founded in 2020 by a small group of friends and local business owners who saw too little LGBTQ+ representation in the rural wine regions of the Willamette Valley. Only two and a half weeks passed between a chance meeting at a Black Lives Matter event and the first Wine Country Pride, a one-day event with a car parade, drag queens, a raffle, performances and speakers. That first year raised more than $3,000, including $1,400 that helped the local PFLAG chapter start the first LGBTQ scholarship in Newberg.

Since then, working with Newberg PFLAG, the group has raised more than $50,000 for scholarships for LGBTQ+ youth and for local advocacy organizations. Its stated aim is to create visible celebrations of the queer community while connecting people through education and economic activity.

The street fair spreads across local businesses on Third Street. A typical schedule includes morning yoga, drag storytime at Third Street Books, drag queen bingo at HiFi Wine Bar, a pet parade with adoptable dogs from Northwest Boxer Rescue, a kids corner with face painting at Hopscotch Toys, rainbow bracelet making at a local jeweler, and a resource fair on one block. Sponsorships range from $500 to $5,000.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
