Pride Portland

Pride Portland is a volunteer-run nonprofit that produces Maine's largest Pride celebration each June. A parade travels through downtown Portland along Congress Street, followed by a festival in Deering Oaks Park with a main stage, vendors, and community groups. The organization provides ASL interpreters, accessible transportation, and sensory-friendly areas.

Pride Portland is a 501(c)(3) organization run entirely by volunteers and funded by contributions from the community it serves. It draws people from across the country to downtown Portland to honor the accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ movement, raise awareness of the struggles that continue, and build a sense of inclusion, accessibility and solidarity.

Accessibility is built into the event through partnerships. Pine Tree Society provides ASL interpreters, and the full fleet of the Portland Wheelers joins to help people with mobility challenges get around.

The organization publishes a safety, security and accessibility plan each year. Pride volunteers are the main point of contact on the day, while law enforcement is present in uniform only. A community police liaison handles communication with police and offers de-escalation support, a medical tent team provides basic care, and the City of Portland keeps ambulances on site. Alcohol is served only in designated areas by licensed vendors, hydration stations are set up around the park, and attendees are encouraged to bring sunscreen, weather-appropriate clothing and earplugs.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 20, 2026. It usually falls a Saturday in mid to late June.
