Rhode Island PrideFest & Illuminated Night Parade

Rhode Island Pride produces PrideFest and the Illuminated Night Parade in downtown Providence, billed as New England's largest LGBTQIA+ Pride celebration. The daytime festival has a main stage, vendors, and a beverage tent, and the parade steps off at night and can be viewed from streets across downtown. Rhode Island's first Pride march followed a 1976 legal fight by LGBTQIA+ residents to take part in the Bicentennial celebration.

Rhode Island Pride was formed in 1976 as part of a grassroots push for equal rights and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community. Today its mission is to bring the greater LGBTQIA+ community together to commemorate its heritage, foster inclusion, raise awareness of issues and celebrate progress toward equality. It is a volunteer-led organization, and in April 2026 it announced Jess Motyl-Szary as its new director.

PrideFest features more than 200 vendors over the course of the day, and a printed PrideGuide lists vendors, community partners and employee resource groups. The Illuminated Night Parade stepped off at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Groups register through Eventeny, with an early bird deadline, and small businesses and nonprofits that cannot pay by credit card can mail a check with a paper form. The organization also compiles a Pride Month calendar of community events.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
