Pride in the Park (Westerly)

Pride in the Park is a Pride Month celebration in Wilcox Park hosted by the Westerly Library and Wilcox Park, with Stonington Pride leading a parade through the park. It includes activities, gelato, a DJ, community organizations, and an opening performance by the Rhode Island Gay Men's Chorus.

Pride in the Park opens at noon with a ceremony featuring the Rhode Island Gay Men's Chorus, directed by Kim Kuda. Music through the afternoon comes from DJ Gadget, with activities and gelato for visitors. Library staff often photograph events for publicity, and anyone who prefers not to be photographed can let a staff member know.

The host, Westerly Library and Wilcox Park, is a private nonprofit owned and run by the Memorial and Library Association, which was established in 1892 to honor the volunteer soldiers and sailors of the Civil War. The library opened in 1894 through the efforts of local industrialist and inventor Stephen Wilcox, who donated the land. The library is now open 60 hours a week, holds more than 287,000 items, and keeps special collections on the history of Westerly and neighboring Pawcatuck, Connecticut.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 6, 2026. It usually falls early June.
