Wallowa County Stonewall Pride Walk

The Stonewall Pride Walk is a Pride walk starting at the Wallowa County Courthouse.

The walk's organizer, People Like Us, is a nonprofit that supports 2SLGBTQIA+ people in rural Wallowa County through BIPOC-inclusive support groups, regional networking, education and financial assistance. The group grew out of queer organizing at Safe Harbors, the county's domestic violence advocacy organization, which secured funding for Pride celebrations beginning with a small private gathering in the town of Wallowa in 2016 and started a Queer Youth Program in 2017. In early 2023, organizers including all three former Safe Harbors 2SLGBTQIA+ advocates formed People Like Us as a 501(c)(3).

The group runs support groups including Out and About for older 2SLGBTQIA+ people and a group for transgender and nonbinary adults. It stresses confidentiality in a small, conservative community, promising never to out anyone, and it has a safety plan for every in-person event.

People Like Us also hosts an evening Wallowa County Community Pride celebration at a private venue near Joseph, with family-friendly drag, a DJ'd dance party, face painting, a free queer book exchange, a low-sensory space and overnight tent and RV camping. All parts of that celebration are free.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. It usually falls late June.
