Wichita Pride Unity March and Family Picnic

Wichita Pride's fall Unity March gathers at City Hall and marches to Riverside Park for a family picnic.

Wichita Pride organizes celebrations throughout the year to bring together the area's LGBTQ+ community and allies, with the goal of events where everyone feels free to be themselves. The fall Unity March begins with a gathering at City Hall at 455 North Main Street at 11 a.m. Marchers step off at 11:30 a.m. and head to Riverside Park at 720 Nims Street, where the family picnic starts at noon. Volunteers help guide the march along the way.

The organization's calendar also includes a June Pride weekend and other community events. The June parade follows a route of about one mile, starting on Main Street in front of the Historic Sedgwick County Courthouse, heading south to Douglas Avenue and turning right to end at Century II, where the festival opens right after the parade with a main stage, local vendors, food and drink and community activations. In the fall, Wichita Pride also hosts a kickball tournament at the Southwest Boys Club.

Wichita Pride's bylaws commit it to events free from discrimination. Its security planning includes extensive coordination with the Wichita Police Department.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
