Crystal Lake Pride Walk and Social

Crystal Lake Pride's annual walk sets off through downtown Crystal Lake and ends at a Pride Social with food vendors, community booths and local performers. In 2026 Crystal Lake Pride became an independent nonprofit.

Crystal Lake Pride incorporated as an independent organization in April 2026, but its story began two years earlier. Its first community Pride event, produced with Downtown Crystal Lake, brought queer residents and allies together in the center of the city for the first time, and a second year with the same partner helped the event grow. Becoming its own nonprofit lets the group plan year-round and make Pride a permanent part of town life.

The organization's mission is to educate the wider community about queer life through visibility, celebration and resource sharing. Its main festival falls on the first Sunday of June and features live music, a queer artisan market and a community resource fair, and the group has committed to keeping that festival free. It also plans at least two smaller gatherings during the rest of the year.

A volunteer board of up to nine LGBTQ+ people and allies leads the group, with a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and communications lead, plus up to three members heading committees and special projects. All money raised goes to its events and mission, and it welcomes sponsors, vendors and volunteers.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 7, 2026. It usually falls early June.
