Fafa Fest

Fafa Fest is a Pride-season festival organized by Nuanua and listed among Utah's local Pride celebrations.

Fafa Fest comes from Nuanua Collective, a Salt Lake City community organization led by queer and trans Pacific Islanders. Co-founders Ma'afu Suliafu and Lauren To'omalatai, who met volunteering in the Pacific Islander community around arts and social justice, hosted the collective's first gathering in December 2019. Nuanua is the Samoan word for rainbow, and the group puts Indigenous culture first, including honoring traditional sexual and gender identities under the MVPFAFF+ umbrella.

The collective started as a social and support group and has grown into service and outreach work with the wider queer and trans BIPOC community. It welcomes Pacific Islanders from every island nation and aims to function as a chosen family that is intergenerational and represents members of every age, ability and gender in its programming and leadership. In 2026 it sent a 12-member delegation from Utah to So'otaga 'O Uso, a global gathering of Fa'afafine, Fa'atama and LGBTQIA+ Samoans in Upolu, and held a Fiafia Night of performances as a fundraiser for the trip.

This community event celebrates LGBTQ+ people and is organized by and for its local community.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 27-28, 2026. It usually falls late June.
