About Lower Cape Pride
Lower Cape Pride is a grassroots, intergenerational group that holds a Pride weekend in Orleans and nearby Lower Cape towns. The weekend centers on a people-powered parade, with no floats, down Main Street from the Village Green, followed by a celebration with a drag show, food trucks, and local nonprofits. It was started to extend Pride support on Cape Cod beyond Provincetown.
Lower Cape Pride began with Joan and Rick Francolini, who had seen how small-town Pride celebrations in Maine brought visibility and joy to queer people, including their daughter and future son-in-law. From that experience came the idea for a movement on the Lower Cape, and what started as two people has grown into a team of more than 50 LGBTQ+ members and allies. Its goals include honoring the intergenerational history of Cape Cod's LGBTQ+ communities, building acceptance, educating the public and helping allies become advocates.
The 2026 morning opened with family-friendly activities on the Village Green before the parade walked about half a mile down Main Street, across Route 6A, to Town Cove Tap House for closing ceremonies. The grand marshals were David Bermudez, described as the oldest living veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion, and his husband Bob Isadore, who helped start the Cape's first hospice and bereavement support groups for gay couples.
Parade parking is at Nauset Middle School. Participants are asked not to throw items or candy, to keep pets leashed and to carry signs with family-friendly messages. The parade goes on rain or shine unless weather poses a risk, children under 12 must be with an adult, and anyone with an accessibility need or a mobility device can arrange it with the planning committee ahead of time.
