About Small Town Pride
Small Town Pride is a Pride celebration in the Gold Country town of Amador City, with editions documented on its website from 2021 to 2024.
Small Town Pride began in 2019 at Small Town Food + Wine, as a collaboration with local queer artist Greg Traverso. That year marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, and the restaurant turned its Sunday brunch with performer Coco Lamarr into a Pride celebration that brought together local LGBT+ residents, allies and friends. The gathering continued in 2020 and 2021 in forms that allowed people to meet safely under pandemic restrictions, and in 2022 it expanded through partnerships with other local businesses.
The organizers describe Amador City, known as California's smallest city, as a place that has long served as a safe space for queer people, artists and business owners. Small Town Pride is meant to honor that history while encouraging equality, creativity and self-expression in the town's future.
