Village Pride Detroit

Village Pride Detroit is a neighborhood Pride block party for Detroit's West Village and Indian Village, held at the Village Biergarten on Van Dyke Street. It offers music and a community gathering in the afternoon and evening.

Village Pride Detroit was launched in 2024 by friends and neighborhood residents Steth Huebner and Xavier Kimbrough to honor the queer residents of Indian Village and West Village on Detroit's east side. The historic neighborhoods, known for their homes, restaurants and coffee shops, have become a destination for LGBTQ residents, and Indian Village has long been home to LGBTQ professionals. Local businesses such as Marrow, The Red Hook and Two Birds are queer-owned or LGBTQ-friendly.

The founders saw other Pride Month events around the city and wanted something that would preserve the history of the Villages while recognizing the larger queer community across Detroit. The first event highlighted several neighborhood businesses and featured local artists.

The event is presented with The Villages of Detroit CDC, a community development corporation that advocates for the neighborhoods and supports growth without displacement. Now in its third year, Village Pride runs from the afternoon into the evening at the Village Biergarten on Van Dyke Street, and all donations made through the CDC's form go directly to Village Pride.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.

Village Pride Detroit has included block party and music.

Village Pride Detroit was first held in 2024.

The organizer has not announced dates for 2027 yet. In 2026 it was held June 6, 2026. It usually falls first Saturday of June.
