PrideLake Festival

PrideLake is a grassroots group in the small city of Pine Lake, east of Atlanta, that holds a Pride festival, which it calls a Pride Protestival, each September at Pine Lake Beach and Park. The group also hosts a summer fundraiser and works on collecting local LGBTQ+ history.

The festival sets up in the street and park beside 4580 Lakeshore Drive in Pine Lake. Street parking is very limited, so organizers recommend parking for free at BluePrint Church on Rockbridge Road, and people can be dropped off and picked up by the Beach House. Pine Lake police patrol the area throughout the festival.

PrideLake provides two ASL interpreters for both of its evening shows, saying accessibility should be a normal standard rather than an afterthought, and people who need a seat within sightline of the interpreters can ask on arrival. Anyone with other access needs is asked to email the organizers before the day so they can make arrangements.

The evening pre-show is open to all ages, but the drag show that follows is strictly 18+, with no exceptions even for infants. The organizers say the rule protects the performers and keeps the audience comfortable.

Pride events celebrate LGBTQ+ people and mark the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. Most combine a parade or march with a festival of performers, community groups, vendors and food.
